The Painter of Shang Hai

I recently finished this Literature/Classic book I bought from BORDERS, "The Painter of Shang Hai". It contains some RA stuff but overall, I find it really cool. FYI the story is base on a real-life woman in the past. She was one of the many victims involved in the Opium War.

What I like most about the book is that it contains the debate going on in China then, whether nude painting is "pornography" or decent art. China was very conservative and slightly narrow-minded then. Most of the Chinese thought that the nude art the whites had introduced to their country was disgraceful and inappropriate. However, there were people like Yu Liang (the main character;heroine) who acknowledged it and saw it as art in it's purest form (or something like that).

Critics Say. . .
In this age of memoir and thinly veiled autobiographical fiction, writers who take high dives into deeply imagined waters have become increasingly rare—and valuable. What a pleasure, then, to discover that Jennifer Cody Epstein, whose luminous first novel, The Painter from Shanghai, is based on the actual life of Pan Yuliang, a former child prostitute turned celebrated painter, also happens to be one such writer…In an epigraph, Epstein quotes the English painter John Sloane, who wrote that "though a living cannot be made at art, art makes life worth living. It makes starving, living." In the end, this is precisely what Epstein illustrates in her moving characterization of Pan Yuliang.
Sarah Towers - New York Times

Epstein's spotless pace, vivid characterizations, and often breathtaking descriptions elevate the novel.... The book's intimacy is spellbinding, not because of the courtesan era when Yuliang "feels like a peach without its skin,: but because Epstein's true achievement in resurrecting such a passionate woman who pursued a life of her own despite intrinsic barriers.
Chicago Tribune

A refreshing telling...non-Chinese-speaking Epstein writes about historical China and the Chinese in a surprisingly authentic way. Her descriptions of brothel life and the landscape of Shanghai, and her rendering of traditional weddings, funerals and foot bindings, make the book feel like a cross between Zhang Yimou's movies and Chen Yifei's oil paintings.
South China Morning Post

Epstein's sweeping debut novel, set in early 20th-century China, fictionalizes the life of Chinese painter Pan Yuliang. Born Xiuquing, she is orphaned at a young age and later sold into prostitution by her uncle, who needs the money to support his opium habit. Renamed Yuliang, she becomes the brothel's top girl and soon snags the attention of customs inspector Pan Zanhua, who makes her his concubine. Zanhua sets her up in Shanghai, where she enrolls in the Shanghai Art Academy and early on struggles with life study, unable to separate the nude's monetary value from its value in the "currency of beauty." She eventually succeeds, winning a scholarship to study in Europe. But when she returns to China, itself inching toward revolution, the conservative establishment is critical of Yuliang, balking as she adopts Western-style dress and becomes known for her nudes (one newspaper deems her work pornography). Simmering resentments hit a flashpoint at a disastrous Shanghai retrospective exhibit, and the fallout nearly destroys Yuliang's artistic ambition. Convincing historic detail is woven throughout and nicely captures the plight of women in the era. Epstein's take on Yuliang's life is captivating to the last line.
Publishers Weekly

Journalist Epstein's first novel showcases two turbulent decades in Chinese history (1913-37) as experienced by prostitute-turned-painter Pan Yuliang. This fictionalized account of real-life artist Madame Pan reveals the woman who created some of China's most provocative post-impressionist paintings. Sold into slavery by her opium-addicted uncle, Yuliang survives life in a brothel, rises from maid to top girl, and eventually achieves quasirespectability by becoming a concubine (second wife) to an honorable civil servant, Pan Zanhua. He teaches her to read and write and helps her gain admission to the Shanghai Arts Academy. Throughout her career, Yuliang is criticized for painting nude self-portraits that reflect a Western sensibility. Her modern artistic and political convictions take a toll on her husband's career, and he allows her to follow her own destiny and supports her when she leaves China to study first in Paris and later in Rome. When Yuliang returns to China, she finds her country torn by political factions. Fans of Arthur Golden's Memoirs of a Geisha and Lisa See's Snow Flower and the Secret Fan will enjoy this engrossing story of a woman forced to choose between following her heart and pursuing her art. Recommended for public libraries.
-Loralyn Whitney, Edinboro Univ. of Pennsylvania Lib.
Library Journal

Fictional portrait of Pan Yuliang, a real-life 20th-century Chinese prostitute turned successful artist. In the mold of Memoirs of a Geisha, Epstein's debut devotes itself to the exotic life of a woman whose early years were spent in the service of men. Orphaned Yuliang is 14 in 1913 when her opium-addicted uncle sells her into a brothel. Beatings are routine, and escapees are caught and murdered. Having learned to please clients, Yuliang rises to "top girl" and has the good fortune to meet a modern-thinking customs inspector, Pan Zanhua, who buys her freedom, "marries" her (he already has a wife and child) and moves her to Shanghai. There she develops an interest in drawing and becomes one of very few women admitted to the Art Academy. Epstein touches on the shifting political background as Yuliang travels to France and Rome and develops her controversial work, which sometimes uses her own naked body as subject matter. Later she returns to Shanghai and Nanjing where, in 1936, an exhibition of her "Western-style" art is vandalized. In 1937 she abandons Zanhua and leaves once more for France, as war with Japan looms. She dies in 1977, only "modestly successful in the commercial sense," but with awards to her name and a body of some 4,000 works of art. The enlivening spark flickers only intermittently in this professional account of an unusual life.

Kirkus Reviews

Pan Yuliang was a girl with no dreams. Her parents were taken from her at a young age, then her uncle sold her into prostitution; it was enough for many years just to cope and survive. One day, fate places a kind gentleman in her path, and she begins to discover the city outside the brothel and the world beyond China's borders. As a larger canvas of life emerges, Pan realizes that she has something of value to say -- and a talent through which she can express herself. From Shanghai to Paris, Pan is challenged by the harsh realities in politics, art, and love, and must rely on her own strength to develop her talent. In so doing, she takes a relatively ordinary life and makes it extraordinary.

A work of fiction—but based on the life and work of a real artist—The Painter from Shanghai transports readers to early-20th-century China, a culture marked by oppression. Epstein has proven herself a shining talent in this first novel, tackling such weighty questions as: How does a talented artist blossom, even under repressive conditions? What is art, and what is love? What makes a life well lived? The answers form a mesmerizing portrait of one young woman's journey to find herself and to nourish her creative talents despite appreciable odds.

MYE EL paper, ROIWORLD & Ichiban Boushi
Hi guys!! I'm back!! :DDD

I did my EL paper today and let's just say not everything went smoothly... URGH!! I so want to redo my composition and situational writing!! I was okay with the comprehensions and summary though. :) Don't want to talk about it.

Recently, I've been hooked to this fashion game site, ROIWORLD thanks to CY!! :DD Of course, that doesn't mean I'm neglecting my studies, especially during such a crucial period. Anyway, do check out my fashion designs at kuonster's ROIWORLD profile. You can support me by signing up for the game, and voting for me!! :DDD

ROIWORLD.com consists of all kinds of games in relation to fashion and celebrities. I'm slight embarrassed to say that even pa plays it sometimes. ._________. Yep...

Just to let you in on my first (and probably, best) design, here it is:

I'm just bored; Don't mind me :DD

LOL!! I guess this is my view of "Twilight" couples? Hmmm... The only thing is, their hair aren't the right colour.

Anyway, I'm still deciding what skin to put on my blog... I don't want this one to stay..but maybe I will... :D

Should I chose TN/ Like a knife.. or IX: Making Peace With An Empty Town?

Nothing much really happened last week and this week.

Apr 25 Sat

Had Ichiban Boushi dinner with Chee Wai, Jun Jie and Cai Yue at Novena Square. :DDD Chee Wai ordered this Taraba gani Sumiyaki crab with udon. I got Tempura Chasoba, CY got Tempura Udon (under my recommendation) and JJ got this barbecue set luch thingy... Not really familiar with the name.

After that, we had this free Tempura Ice Cream since JJ got this coupon thingy. When I first heard the name, I was kind of grossed out because I thought the ice-cream would turn out really weird and probably taste exceptionally disgusting. But I was SO WRONG!! It was so nice man!! CY was too full to eat and she wanted to go on diet, so Chee Wai and I shared her share!! Hehe!! :DDD

This week was nothing but studying... I'm taking a break today. Who knows about tomorrow? It's late and I better sleep now. NIGHT!!

Happy Happy Friday!!
Hi people!! I'm back AGAIN for the weekends to blog. May not blog next week until end of mid-year exam because of, well, mid-year exams...

I'm really upset with my Math results for the tests. I got 16/25 for E Math and 13/25 for A Math. Partly reason is because I didn't use my time wisely and was frequently disturbed by some people (shhh cannot say) who wants to cheat during the test. LOL!! End up I got worse marks than them =.= Next time I must ignore them completely, pretend I cannot hear... Lalala!! LOL!!

Apr 22 Mon

During band, made some funny videos with Joce, Tam, Peggy, Maple, Nigel and Jeremiah. LOL!! We finished doing the maintenance and blah so we were waiting DAMN LONG for the people to arrive, mark attendance and dismiss. So we occupied ourselves with nonsense... LOL!! We were just play-acting in front of Joce's and Maple's mobile phones some REALLY ridiculously funny story line. LOL!!

Will upload the videos once Maple e-mail them to me.

Apr 23 Tue

Gave school a miss. Went to Cheah Family Clinic in Hougang Ave 10 :D

Apr 24 Wed

Audia was crying like mad after she and Kat run finish 2.4 km. I have no idea why because she wouldn't tell Kat and I when we asked her. Anyway, forgot to bring pencil box to school so had to live off on Audia's purple pen, which is freaking cute and cool!! LOL!! Even Kat was like "Wah where did you get it?
What's with you and cute stuff?!!"

Anyway, I run the 2.4 km run again. Last time was 16.12 min, now is 15.24 min. :DDD But not fast enough... x|

Right after school, I got home, showered and changed. Then walked over to SS to celebrate Arisa' Birthday!! LOL!!

HAPPY BIRTHDAY, CHEONG SU YIN ARISA!!
you're old!! LOL!!

The whole class was present. There were pizzas: Hawaiian, Pepperoni and Seafood. Along with Pepsi and KFC chicken wings and drumsticks. No birthday cake though. All we did was write and sign on the humongous pink board we bought at United Square's POPULAR bookstore as a birthday card.

Then we played Truth or Dare and it was absolutely ridiculous and funny la!! I had to sing and clap 'Happy Birthday' to this guy passer-by carrying this full-loaded crumpler bag and some green basketball O_O OMG... Everyone was LAUGHING at me!! WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA!!

The funniest of all is when Chee Wai had to walk topless across the hall where the Taekwondo people were!! LOL!! Everyone was staring at him like "WTH?" and he just walk and smile!! OMG!! LOL!!

Apr 25 Thu

Right after school, I had NAPFA. I passed every station so I was happy, but not all contented.

S&R: 32cm
Pull-up: 10
Sit-up: 45
Long jump: 169cm
Shuttle run: 10.6 s
2.4 km: 14.14 min (my best, earliest record)

I wasn't satisfied with my pull-ups. Kat told me to start and I did 9 until Jeanette told me "You do also no use. Teacher haven't started". "Relax... relax..." Ivy said. WA LAU EH!! Kat anyhow tell me to start!! =.= Then she tell me start I thought it was for real and did 4, then she say haven't started. By then I was EXTREMELY EXHAUSTED!! Then just nice Mr Ho start, I could only do 10!! ARGH!! I could've done 23 in TOTAL leh!! Grrrr...

Apr 26 Fri

Right after school, time really flies when you're having fun. LOL!! If you guys are wondering what Arisa is congratulating on about, it's just some really awesome that happened today which I don't really want to type out here.

Let's just say it was a day whereby, CY and I found happiness? LOL!! OMGGG!! WTF am I saying?!! But I had a lot of fun! Since afternoon until late evening. It all started with a coincidence for me. For CY, it was an "awakening to a long struggle". Yep. I sort of quoted that from her blog!! LOL!!

Anyway, another big news is that I agreed to help my friend, Kiwi (not her real name) ask her crush?, Orange (not his real name), whether he really likes her or not. OH MAN!! I don't know how to ask leh!! I think I will make a fool out of myself asking him on Monday morning because we hardly know and talk to each other!! I always avoid talking to people like him because it's just so weird and I don't have enough guts to approach him!! How to approach?!! OMGG!!

And I'm doing this for Kiwi lor!! Anyway, as back-up, Kiwi getting another friend of hers, Apple (not his real name duh), to ask Orange also. Hopefully Orange doesn't ignore me like I'm some kind of mutant monkey or my self-esteem will really hit the ocean floor man!! That's why I HATE and don't bother approaching strangers!! ARGH!!

OK, that's about it, I guess!! :DDD BYE!!

My FAVOURITE song for today!!

Stop the Hate. STOP it.
I don't know why, but recently I've been really moody. Moody as in: Sad, angry, bored, frustrated, etc. I really hate this me. It all started just this year. I've never had such serious negative cases before until now. The hate I feel for people is enough an urge for me to kill them.

It makes me feel worse. Horrible actually. How do people much more worse off then me cope? Most importantly is, how the hell do I cope?

2 years ago, it may be easier for me. But now, it's just so difficult. I need someone to help me.

Anyway, my brother prescribed to me the 3rd book of Diary of a Wimpy Kid: THE LAST STRAW. LOL!! Haven't read it yet but planning to right after this, to cure my virus.

Past Few Days
Hi guys!! I'm back and ready to update you guys or the week. The days have been really LONG and EVENTFUL for me, and I enjoyed TREMENDOUSLY!! :DDD

Apr 10 Fri

A HOLIDAY!! Studied at the stone table at the playground for the day and played with one of the brave neighbourhood cats. After that, I texted Chee Wai to play with me and we ended up studying A Math. :D Then went to 7 eleven with CY at Shaw to eat. Had the usual mash potato and she got her cup noodles. :DDD LOL!! On the way home, I got an Orea McFlurry. CY's treat. She didn't get anything after the Tom Yam noodles.

Apr 11 Sat

After CL tuition, went to Marché with CY, Hana, Arisa, Chee Wai, Jun Jie, Ha Lin and CL for dinner. The serving of food wasn't the usual customer-order-water-serve kind of thing. Each and everyone of us were given a Marché card. After finding a table to put down our stuff, we were suppose to browse through the numerous food stalls set up in the air-conditioned restaurant.

So it goes like this:
  • Tell the cook/counter-person what you want
  • Give them your Marché card for them to swipe it through some swipe-card thingy to add in the cost of your meal
  • They will return your card and either give you the dish/drink/soup/etc. immediately or tell you to wait for a few minutes before coming back to collect it
  • If you want to order some more foods and/or drinks, you can use the same card to repeat the process
Interesting, eh? I had this Hawaiian Pizza with a medium Cream of Mushroom Soup (both from different stalls), followed by a ULTRA thin Chicken Cheese Hot Dog and a fairly big glob of Mash Potato.

2 plates of Crepes followed as a dessert. CY and WJ went to do selection whereas everybody just stuck to their chairs to catch some breath: The after effects of a heavy meal.

After the meal, we went to exercise by playing at the ULTRA shallow pool/lake thingy just next to the restaurant. It was a place more for families and lovers, but we just went ahead to play with anonymous kiddos. There was a sign nearby, stating "NO SWIMMING" and that really got me sniggering. How can one swim at a pool so shallow, it only reaches up to just above my ankle? It was fun all in all. CY and Hana were the only ones who refused to play, since the water is kind of dirty.

Apr 12 Sun

Went to LC AGAIN with Hana, Arisa and M to study... LOL!! Not really. Just read some books and bought one of them. Then went to Hana's semi-D to study. I took a cab home after for dinner and some TV. I knocked out right after my head hit the pillow.

Apr 13 Mon

Was very tired after Band. Rehearsed for this Friday's Speech Day with CCAs of the Uniform Group.

Apr 14 Tue

Skipped the after-school NAPFA. Almost the whole class skipped. Jo intro-ed A Math assessment book to me. LOL!! Physics test got 20.5/30. Fidel got 24.5/30!! Kuan Kian got 22/30, and I think Jo got the same thing. Not sure. :P SS got 3/23. =.= Fidel also got the same marks as me. Jo got 4/23. Kuan Kian got 8/23. Whole class failed. Highest was 10/23, I think.

Apr 15 Wed

LOL. Today damn lame. During SS period, Kuan Kian keep trying to call his GF, Grace, but she cannot hear him because she was sitting to far away. EL compre go 28/50 in total. I was so angry with my result. It was so poor. And after that, I started to curse people who always disrupted my studies unintentionally in the past. LOL!! I know it's a wrong concept to turn to in such times, but I just did it to not depress myself further than I already was thanks to some silent-turkey stuff in the morning bus.

Mama promised to get me a study table asap and put in my room to study.
A Math test went alright. I couldn't do 2 questions only. Q 4 and Q 2(ii).

Apr 16 Thu

SHIT!! CL paper I wrote a wrong word!! LOL!! E Math test was easy but I had not enough time!! I couldn't finish 3 Qs!! I lost 6 MARKS IN TOTAL!! NOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!! I was so freaking pissed with myself!! I got stuck at the 3rd last question, Q 5(ii)!! I should've skipped it but I did not!! ARGH!! Shared with Audia her F&N cupcake to cool down. I was SO MISERABLE and angry with quite a few people I dare not mention. :P

Apr 17 Fri

Ran 2.4km today and was damn smelly and tired after. Joce kept complaining about my smell (typical Joce) as usual during recess. We talked rubbish about people and stuff as usual, and laughed our heads off.

During last period and after, my group (Kat, Fidel, Audia, Yu Kun, Catherine and I) worked on our PC poster on Int. Friendship Day.

From left to right:
Catherine Ong, Zhou Yu Kun, Katherine Samson, Sarasa Audia Qyudhee, HYkuonkuon (ME), Fidelia Swy

Speech Day was tiring under the hot sun. LOL!! Poor Ridhwan, his toes were practically burning up beneath those black leather shoes. To add on with the torture, he was decked in a long sleeve shirt and dark blue, long pants. He even used up a whole pack of Joce's tissue papers and I only had 1/3 of a tissue to wipe my sweat away.
We were laughing and Joce told me that ________ was looking at me. I don't give a shit. She can look for all I care. I wish Joce hadn't told me. I would get really bothered. Normally, I won't be able to notice all this unpleasant stuff until she points it out to me. Ignorance is indeed bliss.

After band, I played with Flute junior Nigel's D&T wooden top. LOL!! Joce kept telling me not to play and taking it away multiple times, only to be taken back by me. She kept saying it was very childish. =.= I don't care!! LALALA!!

Then, Joce and I went to 7 Eleven to get a drink to quench our thirst. We walked with Calvin and Kah Heng. Near the entrance of 7 Eleven, Calvin was blocking us so I got impatient and gasped the word, "Move!!" Then I dashed off when he gave way!! LOL!! Joce entered and told me "Heh. He just now laugh and call you 'Retarded'." Yet something I don't really want to hear. I don't really get if it was a casual or spiteful remark. She could've lied about the laughing part. Oh well.

Apr 18 Sat (TODAY)

Mama got a new maid. My table has yet to arrive and I'm wasting the day on FB and Blog. Just finished my CL tuition, anyway. :DDD

Once Upon A Scary Time...
I had the SHOCK of my life when I picked up the phone. Chee Wai was practically screaming on the other line "ISZHILIANGWITHYOUISZHILIANGWITHYOUISZHILIANGWITHYOUISZHILIANGWITHYOUISZHILIANGWITHYOU?!!!"
and I was like, "WHAWHAWHAWHAWHA?!!"

Apparently, Zhi Liang got lost. Chee Wai saw the door of the house open and didn't think much of it. He just locked. A few minutes later, he couldn't find Zhi Liang ANYWHERE in the house and started panicking, because aunty and uncle were out. So Chee Wai called me and we met a the neighbourhood park and started looking for Zhi Liang.

Chee Wai was so panicky in his actions, it made me kind of panic and worry too .________.
We practically went through the WHOLE of Jalan Rajah just to look for that small boy and we were sweating like pigs in a sauna!! Chee Wai almost cried, you know!! LOL!! Not wimpy at all, but that shows how much he cares for Zhi Liang... :) Hmmm... Wonder if my brother will cry if I went missing. O_O I can't imagine...

In the end, guess where we found him? At the Mini-Mart... =.= He was practically having a meal there and Chee Wai and I was running there to get water because we were SO thirsty from running. I expected Chee Wai to scold him but he didn't. O_O They just talk normally like nothing happen. I think if I were Zhi Liang and Chee Wai was PY, Zhi Liang would be soooooo dead... ._________.

So I walked home with Chee Wai and Zhi Liang to their house and by the time, uncle and aunty there already. Heh. They never suspect anything. Thought we went playing somewhere I guess. xP

Happy Ending!!

I'm so fucking embarrassed by their comments la. I'm short, stout, frizzy-haired and a bookworm weirdo... There are no flaws to be interested in in me. I'm not outstandginly popular or smart or pretty. So what's with it? BLEH. I think I'll just remain single for a loooooong loooooooong time...

The Passed Part of the Week
I am so tired right now, I don't think I'll have much strength left after I finish up with this post. @____@

Let's start with today first, 2009 April 9 Thu. I had Physics and Social Studies test today, and DAMN the insufficient time to study AND do the test papers!! I don't think I'll be getting straight As for either subject this time... And it's just 21-22 more day away from Mid-Year EXAMS!! OMG!! Can you believe it?!!

My math sucks, anyway. I've got to start sitting down and practicing it seriously. A Math and E Math test is just around the corner; This coming Wed and Thu. @____@ And there's CL test too... OMG!!

So right after the tests, I took the bus and walked to SS to get some breather. I was in desperate need of clearing my head!! The Physics test made me brain ache!! REALLY!! The skin of my scalp kept pricking, as if I had symptoms of an overdose oxygen intake. Ahhh... Then one think led to another... I was looking for my cables to connect my mobile to the school's PC but I couldn't find it because SOMEONE (God knows who!!) had taken my cables and placed it somewhere I have not search during my 2 millenniums hunt!! I was so angry!!

Until Jia Ling asked me if I wanted to play with her. Somehow, I ended up in a water fight with Jia Ling, Ryan and Kyo. LOL!! It really helped take my min off things and I felt SO much better!! So I walked home while reading "WICKED", showered, ate dinner and here I am, blogging!!

On with the past now. Let's start from

April 4 Sat.

Here's the conversation at the library.
Actors: Arisa, Hana, CY amd Kuon (me)

I was using fugging my brains out, studying, and then deciphering classic book after classic book after classic book while listening to 'Merry Christmas Mr Lawrence' on PY's iPod. Hana was using her laptop, watching "BOLT". CY was reading this book called, "Cathy's Book" or something that and Arisa... was just being Arisa.

Arisa: (Look at phone) *Gasp* Aiyo!! Oi, KK! Look!! KK!! KK!!
Me: What? (Looks up to see her flashing her mobile like a gila)
Arisa: 你看时间!! 看!! (Look at the time!! Look!!)
Me: (Sees the time as 4.44pm) -.- You know, 444 is good. The Teo Chews say if you see such a no., you'll have lots of descendants and wealth and stuff like that... (Mama told me that0
Arisa: Ohhh... Then must look more!! LOL!! (Stares at her phone, laughing)
Me: ._______.
Arisa: OI!! Hana!! Look!! Look!! It's gooood!!
Hana: >.> Go away.
CY: What's going on?
Me: Nothing. (Resumes studying)

See how pathetic we are? LOL!! And and and... Arisa and I sneaked in some salted seaweed we had bought from Kinokunya into the library to eat quietly. SHHH!!

Dawn Yang: Guilty or Innocent?
Monday, 6 April, 2009

I gave school a miss today because of a fever. Tomorrow will be Tuesday, and it'll be Chemistry Test then. I'll be studying Chemistry, Chinese, E&A Math and SS later on.

Anyway, I'm here to blog about Blogger Babe,
Dawn Yang. I tell you, she's ultra pretty. However, there have been supposedly dark secrets of her leaked out into the public.

There have been rumours or facts that Dawn Yang has been taking on anonymous identity forums on websites as regular Singaporeans on the road to put other popular people down, such as Mediacorp Artists Fiona Xie and Felicia Chin, through negative comments. To know more, visit
theliesofdawn.blogspot.

This is not the only blog put up to express the public's anger against DY's supposed lies and schemes. There are also blogs such as
Dawn Wayang Exposed and CRAPBANGKISS, which mocks Dawn for lying about the fact that she has never undergone plastic surgery, or that she is not Singaporean but of Dutch and Japanese descendant.

I'm not quite sure if I should believe the rumours, but it's quite believable to me. Except for the anonymous identity forums, of course. The evidence isn't concrete.

My opinion about DY? I find her a little dumb, for telling delusional lies about her bloodline, plastic surgery and blah. Still, everyone lies.

CY definitely hates her, of course!! LOL!! Mmmh... I think, even though DY's really a fake, we shouldn't bother with her at all. Unless you really want to sue her for lying, you can take it to court, in which I would call making a mountain out of a molehill'.

S'pore blogger XiaXue also hates DY for being a liar. She recently put up a post, discriminating DY for her lies, and was sued the very next day by DY's lawyer. WOW, right? Anyway, I don't really care whether DY's a liar or how plastic her face is (which is really plastic). I have to compliment on her dressing for St Patrick's day. Even though it may seem extra and fake of her, her choice of colour for the occasion is really nice!!

Here's a song you can listen to to enjoy; It's really nice!! Just remember to pause the music player first before playing or the sounds will clash.

Anthropologie
The thunder just scared the SHIT out of me!! OMG... It's practically pouring outside, rather heavily. Yes, I'm at my regular place. The stone table near the playground, although I won't be spending much time here from tomorrow onwards. It'll be study study study. And I have 22 minute left to blog before I have to rush back home to help out, study and finish my homeworks.

Anyway, I've been looking through some sites with CY on MSN yesterday, and we were nuts about clothes as usual!! LOL!! YES we are still on about the 'dream bedroom', 'dream house' theory. Bleh.

CY was looking up at this site
Anthropologie and intro-ed it to me. I find the furnitures there much nicer than the clothes. The clothes are nice, but just not outstanding enough.

Anyway, I have to end here. Got to go STUDY!! OMG...

Blogskins

Have I told you before, that I absolutely LOVE CY's blogskins!! *HUACHII~!! It's all grey and white and a bit of black; my favourite colours!! Anyway, putting that aside... CY, Hana, Arisa and I are planning on making a friendship blog. LOL!! I have NO idea what we're going to post up on that blog, but we're just making one to make our friendship known. Weird, right? CY wants to make it private, like her blog. LOL!! I'll go with anything la~... She also suggest I make my blog private, but it'll be so troublesome. Aiya, fan zheng my blog not popular, so who cares?!

Lalala~!! I'm in charge of the blogskin, as usual, but I'm not sure if I can find the time to do so. I have so many other stuff to do!! YARGH~!!
I've been browsing through some skins at
http://www.blogskins.com/, and I found some cool skins I really want and have narrowed it down to 2. :DDD I've also found 2 totally awesome skins that can go as a friendship blog, but I'm having problem with one, so oh well...

My choices for my next blog skin: (Click on the titles to the skin link)

2.

My choices for the friendship blog skin:

a-kewgirl♥ /I miss your beautiful smile

(This is the skin I have problem with!! The codes are all hay wire!! Hopefully I can get someone to help me fix this. It's a really nice skin!!)

Here's the code I wanted to put, but there's something amiss and I can't figure it out. If anyone can help me, please do so!! I'll be so grateful!! You can contact me by my g-mail (go to my profile for info) if you can help. Just e-mail me the fixed code and your name (you can leave it anonymous).

Of course, I don't really expect people who are so free and helpful to help, but just asking for the sake of it... LOL!! OK, I HAVE to go study now. My father is giving me that 'you are so irresponsible to your studies...comp everyday...sigh' look. .___________.

BYE!!

Friday: Bittersweet Moments
Aww shucks!! I cried 2 times today, and I told myself this morning I wouldn't. Darned. When the VP told the band members to stand, almost all of us were crying. I was so embarrassed and touched, my eyes just leaked!! OMG!!

I have to really thank Audia for stopping from crying earlier in the morning assembly. If not, it would've amounted to 3 cries in total that day. Kath couldn't be bothered, as expected. She thought it was all just stupid. Oh well. I was too tired and dehydrated to be pissed with her so I just skipped it all. Really, I felt like slapping her face but I just held it in. Perhaps it's just not her day either.

ANYWAY, on to the happy stuff now... Today, I just got back my Physics test paper and guess what? I got a darn/WHOPPING 16/25!! .__________. It's a considerably good mark, if compared with overall. But if you tell me to look at it just as itself, I say it's not outstanding at all. I want OUTSTANDING!! xDDD like 18 - 23/25. You know~...

Anyway, right now I plan to concentrate on this few stuff:

  • Improve on flute sound to the point whereby there're no airiness and mispitchings
  • Teach juniors well to achieve Gold for the next SYF, 2011. Do not EVER give up to tiredness or resignation!! GO GO GO!!
  • Practice hard on new music scores for next year. NEVER give up and work hard!!
  • Study 24/7. Do not overuse laptop, and do not give up due to tiredness. NEVER EVER!!
  • Get good results and go overseas for educational tour. xDDD
  • Do not let down elders down. Be up to their expectations in moral values and educational level
  • Set a good example for younger cousins, nieces and nephews. Teach them well and help them as and when I can, especially Jie Qi

Today, band was both tiring and fun. Not all fantastic, but it was not terrible either. I was sticky and tired all over. I had to go through the trouble of settling some problems vocally and physically. Some people were either shouting at each other orders or sitting dumbly. Justina kept shouting at Joce to get another chair to add at the flute sect and Joce was pissed. Both of them kept shouting until I had to cut in. So I asked...

Me: Wait, wait. Justina. What's the problem?
Justina: There's not enough chairs!! Must add one more chair!!
Me: Not enough? I thought okay what.
Justina: You COUNT la!!

-So I counted and ya la, got one chair less. So I say...-

Me: OK. We cannot put an additional chair there. Like that there will be not enough space for people to walk through there. Add another chair at the other end of the row, the Saxophone there.
Justina: You do la!

So I did it. I got Edward to pass me an extra chair, positioned it near a saxophone player and told the saxophone sec 1 player to shift one more, followed by another, and some french horn girls. Then that was it!! I don't understand how difficult it could be to do such a thing!! Is it that difficult to come up with such a solution and do it through?!!

It's not really Justina's fault anyway. The way she talks just sounds rough and rude, even though she doesn't mean it. Joce also have her faults. Even if she doesnt realise it, she was acting all leaderly, ordering me, Nigel and Maple what to do. It was annoying, really, and extra of her. Whenever you try to get your point across, she will show you her palm and say, "wait" and continue talking. When you want to say something and she interrupts, and you say "wait", she won't stop at all...
Ahhh forget it. That's just Joce being Joce...

I don't get it, you know. Whenever the juniors are involved, some people starts getting loud and bossy and stressed... What is up with that?!

Anyway, Mr Leng came today and thank god he wasn't disappointed with us. Only with the result. After band, I came home and brought some of my stuff down to study at the stone table near the playground. I didn't feel like staying at home. Chee Wai was with his little brother at the playground, as usual, taking a walk.

Then I had no idea how, I ended up tutoring Chee Wai and making sure his brother eats his food. LOL!! His borther hates spicy stuff, like me. And the wanton noodles were spicy. It was SO difficult, getting him to eat, we just threw 1/4 of it away after an hour of forcing him to eat. So I didn't get to absorb much from my notes thanks to those 2 buggers.

I was happy in the end anyway. Thanks, guys!! You two really made my day!! xDDD

2009 BHSS Band
It was a thrilling day. Everyone was confident, nervous, encouraging, determined, focus... we had everything. We played our best. We shared smiles over well-played parts and tears over our mistakes. All of us expected a Gold or a Silver. But we were rewarded with a bronze. Not a mere bronze. It was not mere at all.

'Bronze'. One word. Just one word and all of us were silenced. Our eager, waiting, happy faces dissipated. The quietness was so deafening, like a humungous thunder of boom. It struck down on our hearts, splitting it viciously. Then, the crying came.

Why did we get a Bronze? Why?
Those were the words I kept sputtering as I cried. It was horrifying. Jocelyn was even more horrified at my outburst. My last SYF ever in BHSS Band, with Mr Darrence Leng. A bronze. Jocelyn and I were fantasizing about a Gold. We thought if we could achieve it, Ms Chamb would finally get the band to go overseas for exchange, and everyone would look up to band and acknowledge the CCA just for once. Our first overseas as a band, our glory for recognition... all gone. We slaved and slaved and lost hours of sleep for the sake of attending and doing our best in band practices. Was it all for naught?

But Mr Ow thought otherwise. We attended SYF as a band, as a family. We worked together, encouraged each other and offered advice, hugs and handshakes. We cried together and passed around tissues to absorb the tears. We consoled each other and exchanged lots of helpful, curing hugs. We were indeed a family, even though some of us may rub others the wrong way.

We did our best. We focused, listened, delivered and hoped.

We've already gotten the Gold with Honours since January. We've gotten it, despite what the result says.
